“This temple is haunted by Prem who killed herself after her husband falsely accused her of having an affair.” The monk explained to the novice as they walked the temple grounds in the morning fog

“Why does she haunt the temple? Why has her soul not been reborn?”

“She is trapped to this realm by her desire for vengeance. You see she killed herself to make her husband look bad as he had done to her with the false accusation. The wise monk at the time said a prayer to keep her vengeful spirit here, rather than being reborn as an evil person or malicious animal so that we may help her soul.”

“You have brought me new victim, old monk!”

“Ahhh!” the novice ran.

Today’s haunting is inspired by the Bhūta, the ghost of someone killed by execution or suicide.

  1. This seems like it would be a great premise for a novel!
